The Process of Getting Porcelain Veneers

Published On: abril 25, 2022

Veneers are a cosmetic dental remedy that helps create a natural and pleasant smile. It can correct teeth imperfections, such as gaps, worn-down, discoloration, spacing, and chips teeth. Since porcelain is durable, you should expect these veneers to provide a permanent and long-lasting smile makeover.

Dental Veneer Procedures

Getting dental veneers usually involves at least three separate trips to the dentist. Your first visit would be consultation, the second trip is making the veneers, and the last visit is installing the veneer.

Diagnosis

On your first visit, your dentist will examine your denture and establish the teeth that require correction. This will help in formulating the best treatment plan for you. The dentist might take pictures and X-rays of your teeth to make impressions on your teeth and mouth.

Preparation

Your dentist must prepare your tooth or teeth for veneers by trimming the enamel. This helps reshape the teeth’ surface. The thickness of the veneers should match the amount of trimming that your dentist does.

After the trimming, your dentist will make an impression of your teeth or tooth and send it to the dental lab. The dental lab might take about 2 to 4 weeks to make porcelain veneers and send them back to the dentist. Your dentist can give you temporary veneers as your wait for the dental lab to send them back.

Bonding

Once the porcelain veneers are back from the lab, your dentist will place them on the tooth to examine the color and fit. The dentist will trim the veneer if it does not fit until it conforms to your teeth or tooth. In addition, if the color does not match, the dentist can adjust using the shade of cement to be used in the procedure.

The dentist will need to clean, polish and etch your tooth before placing the veneer. Etching roughens up your teeth or tooth to ensure that it is strong enough for the bonding process. The dentist will apply cement to your porcelain veneer before placing it on your teeth. Once positioned properly, the dentist will shine a light on the veneer to activate chemicals in the special cement, causing it to harden immediately.

The dentist will remove excess cement, check your bite, and make any needed adjustments. Your dentist might recommend follow-up visits to check on your veneer placement and gums.

Aftercare

Like any other dental appliance, porcelain veneers require you to follow some basic aftercare and hygiene routines. You should maintain impeccable oral hygiene by brushing and flossing your teeth. In addition, rinse your mouth with an antiseptic mouthwash. Although porcelain veneers are stain-resistant, you should avoid red wine, coffee, and other stain-causing beverages.
